The Château de Barbezieux is located in Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire (Charente) and dates from 1480. Testimony by its massive and martial appearance of a rich past, but also of the evolution of architectural history, and of the successive redevelopments made by the authorities having possessed it, the castle of Barbezieux is the main monument of the city, of which it is the central point. While the present building is only the vestige of a vast complex, it remains the material sign of the importance that the seigneury of Barbezieux had in time, which became one of the most powerful in the region, but also in hands that contributed to the writing of the history of France. From the powerful military fortress to the large fortified house, and finally as a local tourist hub, it is a rich history that this great monument delivers on multiple scales.
