About

The church of Saint-Mathias is the main parish church in the commune of Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire, in the department of Charente and the diocese of Angoulême. A large pilgrimage church built in the 12th century, rebuilt several times, it sets up its Gothic bell tower and its high façade above the houses of the historical centre, of which it constitutes one of the main poles of attraction. The church has been included in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since November 29, 1948.
