Château d'Assier

About

The Château d'Assier is located in the Lot department and the Occitanie region on the commune of Assier. It is an exemplary testimony of the diffusion of Renaissance art outside the castles of the Loire Valley. The Castle of Assier, like a hundred other monuments, owned by the State, is managed, animated and open to the visit by the National Monuments Centre.

Built between 1518 and 1535 in the style of the new pleasure castles, it is the work of Jacques Ricard de Genouillac dit "Galiot" de Genouillac, first master of arms of François I. A military engineer, he was at the origin of the mobile, rapid and precise field artillery, which made him famous during the Italian wars and the Battle of Marignan in 1515.
