monument aux morts de Saint-Pierre
The Monument to the Dead of Saint-Pierre is a monument to the dead erected in the city of Saint-Pierre in the department of La Réunion in the overseas region. During World War I, La Réunion was a colony led by Governor Pierre Louis Alfred Duprat (23 November 1931-1 June 1919). 14,355 Reunions were mobilized and 12 per cent of them will not return, or about 1,700 soldiers.
Such a bleed in a small population at the time is a disaster. Hence the importance for the Reunion to show its patriotism through its monuments.
