About

The Écomusée d'Alsace in Ungersheim, in the Haut-Rhin, is the largest open-air museum in France where were transferred and raised authentic Alsatian buildings forming as a village: half-timbered houses, workers' houses, shop, town hall, fortified tower, festive hall, farm, school, washhouse, gardens, fields. In these generally old buildings (some dating from the 15th century) and open to the public, are presented the traditional works of the region as well as the handicrafts. The Ecomuseum often organizes traditional festivals, mostly modelled on the liturgical calendar.

The museum's site is adjacent to the Rodolphe well, an old industrial wasteland of the potash mines of Alsace. Created by Marc Grodwohl, the museum's mission is to present the buildings, customs and customs of old and to ensure the transmission of this heritage through the training of artisans and the awareness of young people through environmental classes and summer stays.
