Roman amphitheatre
arènes de Cimiez
The Cimiez Arenas are a Roman amphitheater located in Nice in the Cimiez district. The Amphitheatre of Cimiez, a monument to the ancient city of Cemenelum, one of the smallest in Gaul (estimated capacity of 4,000 spectators), is built in two successive campaigns between 70 and 80 C.E. It seems abandoned in the fourth century.
Stunned in the 1930s-1940s and then in 2007, a site open to the public, it continues to host cultural events. The building was declared a historic monument in 1965.
