About

The Basilica of Saint-Nicolas-de-Port is a Catholic basilica located in Saint-Nicolas-de-Port (Meurthe-et-Moselle), a few kilometres south of Nancy. In a flamboyant Gothic style, it was erected in the 15th and 16th centuries by René II, Duke of Lorraine and Bar, in thanksgiving for the victory against the Duke of Burgundy, Charles le Témeraire, during the Battle of Nancy on January 5, 1477, which allowed Lorraine to remain independent.
