About

The Féru des Sciences (formerly Museum of Iron History) is a scientific cultural institution run by the Greater Nancy metropolis. The museum is dedicated to the use of iron and its derivatives, from the Middle Ages and the appearance of the blast furnace until the 20th century. This museum is located in the Parc de Montaigu where is also the castle of Montaigu (Meurthe-et-Moselle) in Laneuveville-devant-Nancy, near Nancy, Lorraine.

Origin of the collection: During the construction of the Féru des Sciences, the first collections consisted of acquisitions, donations and deposits under the influence of the Centre de Recherches de l'Histoire de la Sidérurgie. The collections and museum were composed by several specialists: Bertrand Gille (1920-1980), Édouard Salin (1889-1970), Albert France-Lanord (1915-1993), General Joseph Belorgey (1900-1970) and Georges Henri Rivière (1897-1985), who contributed to the museum programme. The Metal Archaeology Laboratory was also involved in the creation of facsimiles and models. In 1965, the inventory of the Féru des Sciences had about 500 objects...
