Chapelle Saint-Thomas

The chapel Saint-Thomas de Lyon is the oldest part of the sanctuary of Fourvière. First consecrated to Saint Thomas and then to the Virgin Mary, it was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. The statue of the Golden Virgin is on its bell tower, built by Alphonse-Constance Duboys. During the construction of Notre-Dame de Fourvière Basilica, it was planned to equip the building with a fifth tower dedicated to the golden statue, and to remove the old building.
