The Notre-Dame-de-la-Vie chapel, or Notre-Dame-de-la-Vie sanctuary, is located in the Belleville Valley on the new municipality Les Belleville and more precisely on the delegated commune of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville. It was built in 1633 and 1680. The chapel has been classified as historical monuments since 12 February 1949.
The Notre-Dame-de-la-Vie shrine is a high tourist and religious place. Built in the 17th century, it became a must-see site in the Belleville Valley and visited by thousands of people each year. It is one of the stages of the cultural itinerary called the Baroque Paths that lead to the discovery of the heritage of Savoyard Baroque Art and the life of the mountain communities of that time. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the Pays de Savoie remained a real Catholic bastion in front of the nearby reformed regions near the city of Geneva, which became the "Protestant Rome".
