Saint-Pierre de Moutiers Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Moutiers, in the Tarentaise Valley, Savoie, France. It was placed on the list of historical monuments on 30 October 1862, replaced by a classification order of 30 October 1906. It was originally the seat of the Archdiocese of Tarentaise, abolished following the concordat of 2 April 1802 which created the diocese of Chambéry-Geneva. The cathedral then became the seat of the diocese of Tarentaise from 1825 to 1966, until a decree of the Holy See united the three bishoprics of Chambéry, Tarentaise and Maurienne into a bishopric of Chambéry, Maurienne and Tarentaise.

Origin: The bishopric of Tarentaise was created in the fifth century, but nothing remains of the original cathedral. A letter from Pope Saint Leo dated 450 indicates that the bishopric is attached to the metropolis of Vienna. The first text mentioning the cathedral is that of the homily pronounced by Saint Avit, archbishop of Vienna, in the cathedral rebuilt by Sanctus between 517 and 525, bishop of Darantasia (Moûtiers), at the time of his dedication (dicta in basilica sancti Petri quam Sanctus episcopus...
