château de Dingy
The castle of Dingy is a former castle that stood on the commune of Dingy-Saint-Clair in the department of Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Situation: Dingy Castle monitored the outlet of Bluffy Pass and the Fier Valley. He was facing Alex's castle. A cobblestone circle, in the courtyard of the elementary school, marks the location of the old tower of the castle spotted during preliminary excavations at the yard. A lintel, recovered from the old castle, was re-used in a Oratory of Villard Dessus.
In the 13th century, Dingy Castle was in the hands of Menthon's family. They gave the name Dingy, "Tour Dingy", to a strong house owned by Pierre de Menthon in 1542 in Passy. Late 16th century Melchior Mattelon ?1558/1607 (from an old Dingian family) was the chestnut. As well as Chessenay, nearby hamlet Mr. Lagrange acquired it in 1815 and sold it in detached stones.
