Leynes Castle is located in the municipality of Leynes (71570), in the department of Saône-et-Loire (France) This castle, a former priory and long owned by the Abbey of Tournus, was first mentioned in 1423 during the wars between Armagnacs and Bourguignons. He was looted, besieged and burned several times: in 1471 by the troops of Louis XI, in 1593 by the lord of Nogent and his soldiers. He remained in ruin for more than a century before being partially rebuilt in 1716. The castle is now renovated and has been converted into guest rooms and cottages.
History: 875: Charter of 19 March 875 where Charles le Chauve gives the land of Leynes to the Abbey of Tournus. 1119: Leynes is confirmed at the Abbey of Tournus by the Pope. 1423 : First mention of the castle, the castle is occupied by the Armagnacs. 1471 : Invasion of Maconnais by the troops of Louis XI who cause the castle to burn. 1593 : The castle is looted by the lord of Nogent and his soldiers. 1716 : The Abbey of Tournus has the most urgent repairs done.
