About

The Château de Montagu is a ruined castle located in the commune of Marcoussis in France, in the Hurepoix region of the present Essonne department and the Île-de-France region twenty-six kilometres southwest of Paris. Recognized as one of the most beautiful achievements of the late Middle Ages, the castle became, after the Hundred Years' War, one of the most popular residences of the kings of France. Close to the capital, it becomes an exclusive hunting appointment for kings.

In the mid-17th century, he became famous for welcoming the princes of Condé and Conti with their brother-in-law, the Duke of Longueville, during the Fronde. Forgot and destroyed in part during the French Revolution, it was rediscovered some 50 years ago by Roland Payen, and then by the Historical Association of Marcusussis.
