église Saint-Merry de Linas
Saint Merry Abbey is an abbey dedicated to Saint Merry located in Linas, Essonne. It was founded in 936 by Louis IV d'Outremer. It remains the base of the bell tower and part of the church choir, which are classified as historical monuments.
Origin: There was a church in Linas dedicated to Saint Vincent. A document of 884 mentions the translation of relics from Saint Merry from Paris to Linas. In 1207 the bishop of Paris Eudes de Sully wanted to increase the cult in the church of Saint Vincent de Linas (by which we learn that the church of Linas, dedicated to Saint Vincent, will be to Saint Médéric under the name of Saint Merry only after the installation of the chapter in Linas), and set up canons to do so. These canons came from the collegiate church of Saint-Marcel in Paris, which had lost some of its income in the early thirteenth century. A collegiate church is built, of which it remains the base of the bell tower and part of the choir with flat bedside.
