The castle of Machuraz — sometimes called the castle of Artemare — is a 16th century castle rebuilt in the 19th century by Benoît-Joseph Chatron, which stands at the place called Machuraz on the commune of Vieu in the department of Ain and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. He succeeded an old strong house which itself replaced an old barn and a tower adjacent to it. The whole estate and the castle in total, the portals, the communes, the stables, the cellar, the north staircase and its fountain, the house, the vegetable garden, the gate of the park are registered under the title of historical monuments by decree of 6 November 2006.
Situation: Machuraz Castle is located in the French department of Ain on the commune of Vieu at the place called Machuraz.
History: In the first half of the 12th century, this territory was without any construction and largely covered with brush.
