The Château de Surgères is located on the right bank of the Gères in Surgères in Charente-Maritime and is the historic, cultural and touristic heart of the city. This vast castral complex, originally built in the Middle Ages, at the end of the Carolingian period, today includes a somewhat disparate set of buildings dating from the 11th century for the church and from the 16th century to the 18th century for civil buildings enclosed behind a belt of ramparts and towers dating from the medieval era.
