château de Tassigny
The castle of Tassigny is a 16th century castle, located in a territory that the German Empire and the Kingdom of France fought for in Sapogne-sur-Marche.
Description: The plan of the castle is rectangular, with four square towers at each corner, raised from one level. The house, or Strong House, is in square, relying on the north-west and south-west courtlines. Northeast courtlines are outbuildings. The south-east court is a wall closing the inner courtyard, pierced by a carriageway entrance, which replaced in the eighteenth century an old drawbridge. A stone bridge was built on the dried moat. A chapel with ogival vaults is located in the East Tower, surmounted by a lantern. The Strong House dates back to the late 16th century. The victim of a fire in 1542 during the conflict between François I and Charles Quint, it was rebuilt.
Location: The castle is located near the French-Belgian border, on the territory of the municipality of Sapogne-sur-Marche, in the French department of Ardennes and is visible from the departmental road (D 44) which leads to the Abbey of Orval. He's in the Marche Valley.
