Church building
église Saint-Pierre de Carville
The church Saint-Pierre de Carville is a parish church now unused located in the commune of Darnétal in the city of Rouen in Normandy. The church, of a beautiful and homogeneous Gothic style that bears witness to the richness of the town of Dernestal at the end of the Middle Ages, has undergone many changes during its history. It is particularly remarkable for its finely carved tower in a flamboyant Gothic style of the 15th century close to that developed by the Rouenese master-sculptor Roulland Le Roux at the same time for the Tower of Butter of Notre-Dame de Rouen Cathedral.
The church tower is now separated from the nave building by the cause of a fire in 1562 during the Wars of Religion. Since 2005, the church, which suffers from infiltration problems, is closed to worship and awaits restoration.
