About

Capelle-Beaudigny Road Cemetery is a First World War military cemetery located on the territory of Capelle, North.

Location: This cemetery is located in the countryside, 3 km east of the village, on the road leading to Beaudignies, halfway between the latter and Capelle.

History: The area was occupied by German troops in late August 1914 and remained far from the front for four years. It was not until September 11, 1918 that Capelle was the scene of violent fighting before being definitively captured in the following days by British troops. This cemetery was created at the end of September 1918 to bury British soldiers who had fallen during the capture of the village.

Character: There are now 55 war victims from 1914-18 commemorated on this site. Among these, a small number is not identified. Eleven German graves of 31 October 1918 were abducted. The cemetery covers an area of 333 square meters and is surrounded by a small brick wall.
