forges de Paimpont
The Paimpont forges are a remarkable old industrial site of the Paimpont forest. Located in Ille-et-Vilaine, they are closer to Plelan-le-Grand than Paimpont (the site is on horseback on both municipalities). They were the most important wood forges in Brittany since the 18th century.
They will run until the end of the 19th century. Their establishment is permitted by the proximity of an open pit iron ore deposit, the existence of a large hydrographic network and the easy supply of locally produced charcoal. The site has been listed as historic monuments since 24 July 2001 and has been rehabilitated before its opening to the public.
