chapelle Saint-Marcel de Vitry-sur-Seine
The chapel Saint-Marcel de Vitry-sur-Seine, also known as Saint-Marcel-du-Port-à-l-English, is a parish church located at 78, avenue Anatole-France in the municipality of Vitry-sur-Seine. It is also accessible by avenue Jean-Jaurès, in Ivry-sur-Seine, which faces it.
History: This chapel is the result of the construction of places of worship undertaken in the Paris suburbs by the Work of the Cardinal's Buildings, and therefore belongs to the diocese of Val-de-Marne. It was consecrated on November 17, 1935 by Cardinal Verdier. It became a parish church on 21 April 1951.
It is a building with an elongated plan, a single vessel, with a roof covered with mechanical flat tiles. The construction was carried out in limestone. It is decorated with a sculpture by Marcel Damboise representing Marcel de Paris, which is listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage. A glass window dating from 1935, representing Saint Marcel and the Dragon, is the work of Mauméjean, collective name of master glassmakers.
