The Social Museum was founded in 1894 in Paris, no 5 rue Las-Cases, 7th arrondissement, in the form of a private foundation recognized for public utility. The aim was to keep and display permanently the documents of the social economy pavilion of the universal exhibition of 1889 set up and moderated by Frédéric Le Play with Émile Cheysson as secretary.
