About

The Verdun Memorial is a museum dedicated to the history and memory of the Battle of Verdun of 1916, located in Fleury-devant-Douaumont, a few kilometres from Verdun, in the department of Meuse in the Grand Est region. Created in 1967 on the initiative of Verdun's National Remembrance Committee and its president Maurice Genevoix, the museum is a place of memory for First World War veterans. From late 2013 to early 2016, the Memorial closed for renovation and expansion.

On 21 February 2016, he reopened on the occasion of the centenary of the beginning of the Battle of Verdun. The scenography of the museum is modernized and more educational, and the conflict is now presented from a Franco-German perspective.
