palais des ducs d'Aquitaine
The Palace of the Dukes of Aquitaine and Palace of the Counts of Poitiers is a historic monument located in Poitiers in the department of Vienna. Former Ducal Palace of Aquitaine and Comtal of Poitiers, and more recently courthouse, it is a medieval testimony of the Gothic architectural style Angelvin. The 12th century palace, restored and partially rebuilt by the Duke of Berry from 1380 onwards, consists essentially of two separate buildings: a very large room of flamboyant Gothic style, 50 m long, — also historically called aula and more recently "room of the not lost" — and a dungeon also called "Mongeon tower", unfinished, rectangular plan and defended by four large round towers.
The building, which was held as a courthouse from 1418 to 2019, is now a place of cultural meetings intended to enhance artistic projects and all types of events. The palace has been classified as historical monuments since 1862. The garden surrounding the palace was classified in 1930 and parts of the basement in 1957.
