The gate of Arras is a fortified monument, vestige of the old ramparts of the city of Douai in the northern department It has been listed as a historical monument since 2 November 1945. Usually dated from the beginning of the 14th century, it consists of a two-rounded sandstone chestnut flanking the entrance passage. A building body was once docked at his throat.
First built in wood, it was the first re-built door in masonry. A few meters to the right on leaving the city, you can see the remains (XVIIIth century) of the foredoor.
