About

The Françoise-Giroud Garden is a green space in the 13th arrondissement of Paris located in the middle of the roundabout of the Place d'Italie.

Situation and access: The site is accessible by 4 Place d'Italie. It is served by lines 5, 6 and 7 at Place d'Italie station.

Description: This garden has a central basin and a monument to the Marshal June, whose statue faces the avenue of Italy.

Origin of name: He pays tribute to French journalist, writer and politician Françoise Giroud (1916-2003).

Formerly "square of the Place-d'Italie", he took the name of "garden Françoise-Giroud" on 8 March 2015. Located in the centre of the Place d'Italie, it is the meeting point between the districts of the Gobelins and the Butte-aux-Cailles and faces, to the south, the avenue d'Italie. On November 16, 2019, the park was sacked during an episode of the Yellow Gilets movement. The monument in honour of Alphonse June, located in the southern part of the garden, was then destroyed during the demonstration. Since then, the park has been completely restored.
