jardin May-Picqueray
The May-Picqueray garden or square of Bataclan until 2005 is a green space in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, France.
Situation and access: It is located on Richard Lenoir Boulevard, opposite the Bataclan showroom. It is served by line 9 at Saint-Ambroise station.
Origin of name: The name of this garden pays tribute to Marie-Jeanne Picqueray (1898-1983), anarcho-syndicalist and anti-militarist libertarian, who founded the newspaper Le Refractaire.
History: Created in 1920, the garden is part of a suite of open or closed green spaces forming the Richard Lenoir Square, built on vaults dating back to the Haussmanian era. The most recent developments were designed to evoke the existence of the Saint-Martin Canal under the cobblestones.
Formerly referred to as the Bataclan Square, due to proximity to the entertainment hall, the garden became its current name in 2005.
