stade de Venoix - Claude-Mercier
The Claude Mercier Stadium, better known as the Venoix Stadium, is a caen velodrome stadium located in the Venoix district. The terrain was used in 1912 by the Club sportif Caennais. Its development began in 1914 but was interrupted by World War I.
The velodrome, equipped with a concrete track covered with resin, 400 meters long and 5.90 meters wide, was inaugurated on 17 May 1925 and allows arrivals of the Tour de France. Until the opening of the Michel-d'Ornano Stadium in 1993, it was the home of the first team at the Malherbe Caen Stadium, the main football club in the city of Caen. Its capacity, which was nearly 11,500 places at the turn of the 1990s, was reduced to 3,500 following the start of the first Malherbist team.
The stadium was used by the reserve team of Stade Malherbe Caen and is still used by the club's youth teams, as well as the women's team. In 2013-2014, the suburban team of the Ciennais SC Hérouville played its home games there. It is also used as a training ground at the school of cycling at the Caennais Sport Star.
Since October 2013, the stadium has been named Claude Mercier.
