About

The Théâtre Comte, also called the Théâtre des Jeunes-Élèves, is a Parisian theatre opened by the ventriloque and magician Louis Comte in 1820 passage des Panoramas (2nd arr.). Hyacinthe made his debut in 1821. In 1826, Louis Comte had to leave the Panoramas for security reasons, and he ordered architects Allard and Brunneton to build a new hall in the Choiseul district, which was being renovated.

With double access through Choiseul and Rue Neuve-Ventadour (now Monsigny Street), it was inaugurated on January 23, 1827. In 1846, a law forbidding the play of children in theatre, Louis Comte gave direction to his son Charles. Jacques Offenbach took over the lease in 1855 and set up his theatre of Les Bouffes-Parisiens, a name that the hall has retained until today.
