The Pyrimont Bridge in Chanay was a single arch bridge used as a road bridge. He crossed the Rhône between Chanay (Ain) and Chlonges (Haute-Savoie). It was inaugurated on September 8, 1907 and destroyed in June 1940 by the French army, to slow the German advance. A few pillars are still visible in the middle of the river.
History: As early as 1885, the inhabitants of the banks of the Rhone requested the replacement of the trailing ferry, which provided for the crossing of the river, by a bridge. The bridge was built from May 1905 to December 1906 and opened in 1907. On the night of 19-20 June 1940, the bridge was destroyed by the French army, which was trying to delay the German advance during the Battle of France. The trailing tank then resumed service until the early 1950s and the construction of the second Pyrimont bridge.
Characteristics: The Pyrimont Bridge was a reinforced concrete bridge developed by Hennebique. It included four spans about 200 metres long. The apron was located 30 to 47.30 metres above water. Finally, the track was 2.20 meters long, with two sidewalks on both sides, 70 centimetres wide...
