About

The viaduct of the Recoumène (or Recoumène) is a railway bridge built from 1921 to 1925 for the railway line known as the "transcevenole" which was to link the Puy (Haute-Loire) to Aubenas (Ardèche). As this line was not completed, the viaduct was never put into service and never saw a train pass. The viaduct of (la) Recoumène is located in the Haute-Loire, near the Monastier-sur-Gazeille, a tourist centre made famous by Robert-Louis Stevenson.

It crossed the Gazeille, a small tributary of the Loire descending from Mount Mézenc, and the departmental road 535 that connects the Puy to Privas. According to the Napoleonic cadastre the Gazeille was once called La Ricomène. This name was used at the time, but in a slightly modified form, for the designation of this viaduct.
