Truss bridge
viaduc du Furan
The viaduct du Furand was a trellis bridge located in the commune of Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye in Isère. It allowed the tramway to pass through a combo with an accident relief at the bottom of which the Furand flows. This work was built from 1903 to 1908 to connect Lyon to Saint-Marcellin.
Its aim is to facilitate the transport of silk between these two regions, which were very dynamic in the textile industry at the time. Indeed, this very particular service was organised from 1912 at the request of the Lyon Chamber of Commerce in order to remedy the difficulties of manufacturers scattered throughout the Lower Dauphiné to ensure their supply of raw products and their deliveries of finished products. The building was built by the company Sud-Isère-France.
The company later became the Tramways of Western Dauphiné.
