The viaduct du Montenvers is a railway viaduct located on the Chemin de fer du Montenvers, which links Chamonix-Mont-Blanc to Montenvers, near the Mer de Glace. It is 152 m long and has 11 arches. It has an S profile, with a curve of 80 m radius and a countercurve of 90 m.
It is located on a 219 mm/m slope. It was built in 1906 and is made of metal, concrete and tar. On August 25, 1927, a tragic accident occurred shortly after the departure of Montenvers.
The locomotive that went to Montenvers derailed and fell from the viaduct with the first car. The accident caused 22 deaths and 25 serious injuries.
