viaduc du Chavanon
The viaduct du Chavanon is a French suspension bridge that crosses the Chavanon valley between the communes of Merlines in the department of Corrèze and Messeix in Puy-de-Dôme. It overlooks a ZNIEFF valley and marks the symbolic limit of the passage from the Limousin to the Auvergne on the French motorway A89. Moreover, it has the peculiarity of being the only suspended bridge built in France between 1970 and 2000.
Inaugurated in 2000, the bridge has a main range of 300 metres, making it the third longest suspended bridge in France, after the Tancarville bridge and the Aquitaine bridge. The viaduct is located two kilometres east of the viaducts of the Barricade and the Bergères.
