basilique Notre-Dame-de-Paradis
Notre Dame de Paradis Basilica is a Catholic church located in Hennebont, France. She has the status of minor basilica.
Location: The church is located in the French department of Morbihan, in the commune of Hennebont.
The project of a chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame was presented by François Michart, Marshal-ferrant, in 1513, on the Place du Paradis. The first stone was laid in 1514 and the still unfinished church was consecrated on 19 June 1524 by Bishop Geoffroy Le Borgne, alternate with Cardinal Lorenzo Pucci, bishop of Vannes. The chapel served as a parish church from 1590. The building, flamboyant Gothic style, is noticed by the boldness of its porch and the richness of ornamentation. The church is classified as historical monuments by list of 1862, its surroundings by order of 10 August 1939. It was elevated to the rank of minor basilica by Pope Pius X on January 17, 1913. The church was miraculously spared by the German bombings on August 6, 1944, when much of the city was destroyed.
There are five bells in the basilica, all melted at the end of the 19th century in Villedieu...
