église Saint-Aubin de Limay
Saint Aubin Church is a Catholic parish church located in Limay, Yvelines, France. It dates back to the 1140s in its oldest parts. It was the base of the bell tower and the old late Romanesque choir, which followed a unique nave of the same period demolished in the late seventeenth century.
The rest of the present church was built from about 1230 north of the Romanesque church, in the Gothic style. It is a square choir hall, with a flat bedside, and a double nave, all vaulted with warheads and at a single level of elevation. The first two spans of the double nave were rebuilt after the Hundred Years' War, including the gate, in the flamboyant style.
The stone arrow of the bell tower dated from the same time as the Gothic choir, but was entirely rebuilt in the early twentieth century. Remarkable for its dual-ship plan, its two arches of warheads prior to the middle of the 12th century and its bell tower, and housing interesting furniture, the church Saint-Aubin was classified as historical monuments by order of 26 May 1944, and is today in the center of a large parish under the title of "Limay-Vexin", which includes the...
