About

The mills of the old Limay bridge were located on the old Limay bridge, which spans an arm of the Seine on the territory of the municipality of Limay, in the Yvelines department. Like many old bridges across the Seine from Poissy to Vernon, this bridge included mills above its structure, where fisheries were installed. All that remains is testimony in ancient engravings or paintings.

In the 13th century, three mills were attested on the bridge. The convent of Saint Corentin Abbey had, on the bridge of Mantes, a mill that was destroyed during a flood in 1658. The name of a mill operator is known for the early 19th century by a notarial act: on the 15th nivose year 12 (6 January 1804), the mill of the Ponceau is sold to Pierre-Charles Vacher, miller and owner of the house and mill built on the bridge of Limay. The last mill, resting between the 3rd and 4th piles of the bridge, sank in 1870 during a flood, "a barge came to hit the stilts of the mill and destroyed it".
