Church building
église Saint-Irénée
The Saint-Irénée church in Lyon, located on the heights of Lyon in the Saint-Irénée district, is, for its lower part, one of the oldest in France. Indeed, the crypt of the church dates from the 9th century, the beginning of the Carolingian period, the church itself having been rebuilt, after many vicissitudes, at the beginning of the 19th century and ended in 1830. It is one of the few monuments of the High Middle Ages partially preserved in elevation.
The church is classified as historical monuments by the list of 1862. A calvary and a Way of the Cross which was the subject of an inscription to the historical monuments in 2021 are installed in the enclosure of the church at the back on a terrace that dominates the city of Lyon with a beautiful point of view.
