Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montrésor is a former collegiate church located in the Indre-et-Loire department of France. Founded in 1521 by Imbert de Batarnay, seigneur of Montrésor, who wished to make it the burial of his family, and dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, it was immediately raised to the rank of collegiate and houses a chapter of five and twelve canons. Imbert de Batarnay died before the construction was completed but his body was finally buried there a little later.
From 1700 on, with the creation of the parish of Montrésor, it assumed the function of parish church. At the time of the French Revolution, while the chapter of canons had been greatly reduced for a century, the latter of them dispersed, but the church, although looted and suffering extensive degradation in 1793, retained its parish function, which it still assumed in the 21st century. She observes the rather original plan of a cross of Lorraine.
While its architecture is marked by the end of the Gothic period, its décor, both exterior and interior, bears the imprint of the early French Renaissance. The church has undergone numerous restorations and repairs, including...
