The Saint-Joseph-Travailleur church is a parish church with resolutely modern architecture, commissioned by the diocese of Avignon, in the department of Vaucluse, to equip a new neighborhood. It was built in the second half of the 20th century by French architect Guillaume Gillet (1912-1987), from Oise. Built from 1967 to 1969, it was consecrated on 19 October 1969.
The Saint Joseph-Worker Church and the adjoining parish centre constitute a relatively elegant and airy set of reinforced concrete, which renews the vision of sacred architecture in the city of popes, marked in particular by the construction sites of the papacy of Avignon in the 14th century. This construction is part of the continuity of the architectural modernity of the fifties, implemented by Guillaume Gillet during the reconstruction of Royan (Charente-Maritime), for which he was responsible. The entire church and the facades and roofs of the parish centre were included in the additional inventory of the Historic Monuments by order of 22 December 1993.
