Saint-Marcel de Vix Church is a Catholic church located in Vix, Côte-d'Or department, France.
Location: The church Saint-Marcel is located in the commune of Vix near Châtillon-sur-Seine in the French department of Côte-d'Or at the place called Mont Roussillon sur l'oppidum du Mont Lassois. It is a parish church of Vix and Etrochey which no longer has a clean church.
History: As early as 887 traces of a Saint-Marcel abbey at the top of the mountain. Dated from the 12th century, the present church may have succeeded the chapel of a 9th century castle - disappeared - due to the Palatine Count Girart of Roussillon, also founder of the Abbey near Pothières and that of Vézelay. It was redesigned in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Architecture: The plan of the church, oriented north-south, is currently that of a Latin cross. The elevation of the central nave presents the characteristics of the early 12th century Romanesque style with four blind spans vaulted with broken crib warves and two lateral naves leading to the transept pierced by small windows.
