About

Saint-Nicolas Church is a parish Catholic church located in Tessancourt-sur-Aubette, Yvelines, France. For its oldest parts, it dates back to the second quarter of the 12th century, and then consists of a single nave not arched; a base of bell tower vaulted with ridges and an apse with cut strips arched in cul-de-four. The base of the bell tower is distinguished by its double arches in third-point, which announce the Gothic style, and contrast with the typical Romanesque vaulting forms and the archaism of some capitals.

Very few apses of the Tessancourt type remain in the Vexin, but its architecture is extremely sober. By the middle of the 12th century, the nave was enlarged by the addition of lower side to the north and south, but the beginning of the south side was never built, and a Romanesque window remained south of the nave in the second span. The Romanesque bell tower also seems unfinished: it seems to miss an octagonal floor.
