Church building
église Saint-Étienne de Villandry
The church of Villandry is dedicated to Saint Stephen, the first martyr. The first chapel called Saint Roch dates from the fifth century (it was destroyed around 1844). It is built halfway up the hillside, is more than 300 m away from the castle and away from the alluvial plain of Cher, apart from any flood risk.
Through her physiognomy, she finds her counterpart with the parish church of Cormery. A rectangular chapel of 9 m by 18 is built in the 11th century. At the end of the twelfth are added the transept and the choir.
The original chapel then became the nave of the new church.
