Archaeological site
La Ferrassie is a French prehistoric site located in the commune of Savignac-de-Miremont, Dordogne. It consists of three deposits, including a cave, a small shelter and the most important "Great Shelter of Ferrassia". Ferrassie is one of the prehistoric sites and caves adorned with the Vézère valley.
It has delivered rare remains of eight individuals dating from the Châtelperronien, found in a rich archaeological record, a source of new information over a long period of time in which Neanderthals and Homo sapiens followed. The Ferrassie cave and all its valley (north and south rivers), up to the Bernoux cave, were occupied in the Celto-Gaulian period until at least the last iron age.
