arboretum du Puy Chabrol
The Arboretum du Puy Chabrol is a former arboretum of France, currently extinct, located near the village of Barsanges in the commune of Pérols-sur-Vézère, in the department of Corrèze, Limousin. It is an area of 38 hectares.
History: The Arboretum was created between World War I and World War II in 1919 by Marius Vazeilles (1881-1973), a naturalist and forest expert. In 1919, he left his employment in the Water and Forestry Administration to set up a nursery, and then became an expert in forest resources in Meymac. Marius Vazeilles develops a plantation program at Chabrol puy of nearly 400 new forest species from five continents, unknown in the region, especially conifers, and plants 18 hectares of arboretum. It is then completely destroyed.
