Tourist attraction
The well of Hell is first of all a stream, tributary to the right bank of the Sèvre Niortaise, which flows in Upper Val de Sèvre. This stream serves as a boundary between the municipalities of Saint-Maixent-l'École and Nanteuil, and between Nanteuil and Exireuil. Its name comes from the site of Hell's Puits, where the stream falls into a rocky and deep valley of about 50 meters. Upstream of the "cascade", the mill of Hell's Puits is close to a water reservoir where two other streams meet: the Rabane and the Renardière.
