basilique paléochrétienne de Lugdunum Convenarum
The Paleo-Christian Basilica of Saint-Bertrand-de-Cominges, or Basilica of Lugdunum Convenarum, is a former Christian building located in Saint-Bertrand-de-Cominges in the department of Haute-Garonne in the Occitan region.
Location: The building is located at the foot of the city of Saint-Bertrand-de-Cominges on the site of Lugdunum Convenarum.
History: The basilica is one of the oldest Christian churches in southern Gaul. Built in the fifth century at the foot of Lugdunum Convenarum while the city surrounded by ramparts, it confirms the existence of a Christian community whose origins date back to the end of the third century. The burials are continuous on the site where the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Julien and its cemetery succeed directly to the ancient basilica. The ancient ruins of the city, owned by the Société archéologique du Midi de la France, are classified by decree of 24 June 1946, including parcel 548 concerning the archaeological site of the Roman basilica. Since 1998, it has been listed as a World Heritage Site under the title of the "paths of Compostela in France".
