Botanical garden
jardin botanique Henri-Gaussen
The Henri-Gaussen Botanical Garden is located in the centre of Toulouse, it is managed by the University Toulouse III-Paul-Sabatier, however, it is visited via the museum of natural history. It is located in the commune of Toulouse in the garden district of the plants, and has been named since 1991 by the famous phytogeographer and prominent botanist, Professor Henri Gaussen, who led it from 1948 to 1958. The Botanical Garden was originally confused with the Jardin des Plantes de Toulouse.
He is the heir of the Garden of the Academy of Sciences: when learned societies disappeared during the Revolution, Philippe Picot de Lapeyrouse decided to transport the plants on the ground of the Carmes undressed. The move took place in 1796. The botany courses of the Central School, then the Special School and finally the Faculty of Science (1809) will now take place on this site.
This vast garden, which sought to match those of Paris and Montpellier, becomes a place of montration and demonstration. The original Garden of Plants is partly structured into several "schools": medicinal plants, industrial plants, forage plants.... It acquires a great reputation and quickly counts...
