Notre-Dame de Saint-Germain-des-Fossés Basilica is the current Catholic parish church of Saint-Germain-des-Fossés (Allier). It should not be confused with the church of Notre-Dame de Saint-Germain-des-Fossés, a Romanesque church attached to the Clunisian priory, a former parish church located at a distance, south of the city.
Location: The basilica is located in the city centre, close to the main street that crosses the city from north to south (Pierre Semard Street).
History: The basilica was built between 1934 and 1956, on the initiative of Abbé Auguste Cueillat, to cope with the increase in the urban population following the development of the railway node and to replace as parish church the church of Notre-Dame too decimated. The architect was Marcel Génermont. The arrow was later built in 1954–56. The local appellation is Basilica Notre-Dame, probably to distinguish it from the old church. However, it seems that she did not receive the title of basilica in the canonical sense.
